이다원은 정체성의 내면적, 외면적 확립에 대하여 이야기 한다. 여성 개인이 느끼는 삶의 감정과, 그것을 받아들이는 타자로서의 시선이 결합되는 순간을 포착하여 이를 이미지화 한다. 솔직한 내면과 사회적 외면의 사이에서 숨겨져있는 여성의 야성과 분노, 욕망을 그림으로 드러내고자 한다. 마녀의 모습으로 표현되는 여성들은 그들의 감각 체계를 극대화 하기 위해 진화했고, 동물과 하나된 여성들은 그들의 욕망과 자아 표현을 위해 신체적 변화를 꾀한다. 자신 안에 내재된 진실이라는 공포를 표현하기 위해 연구하고 있으며, 과슈와 수채 또는 연필 드로잉을 주로 이어나가는 중이다. 작가 자신의 새로운 발견과 더불어 여성들의 가라앉은 내면을 수면 위로 끌어올리는 방법을 모색하고자 한다. Lee Dawon explores the internal and external establishment of identity. She captures and visualizes the moments in which a woman’s personal emotions about life intersect with the gaze of others. Her work seeks to reveal the hidden wildness, anger, and desire of women that exist between honest inner worlds and socially constructed appearances. The women depicted as witches have evolved to amplify their sensory systems, while those merged with animals undergo physical transformation to express their desires and sense of self. Through her artistic practice, Lee Dawon explores and expresses the fear that stems from the truths embedded within the female self. She primarily works with gouache, watercolor, and pencil drawing. Her artistic journey aims not only at self-discovery but also at bringing to the surface the submerged inner worlds of women. (2025)

나는 정신이 신체에 끼치는 영향과 주체성을 갖는 몸이 외부 세계와 상호 작용하는 방식에 대해 탐구하고 이를 회화 이미지로 담아내고 있다. 신체는 완전히 정복하지 못한 온전한 나의 것이다. 자신의 육체조차 확신할 수 없는 불확실성 안에서 나를 단단히 지지할 수 있는 것은 오히려 그 내부에 존재하는 것이었다. 정신으로 만들어낸 자아만이 ’나‘와 ’세계‘ 를 명확히 구분해내면서, 동시에 ’세계‘ 와 ’나‘라는 존재가 유연히 공존할 수 있게 만들었다. 그러나 타자에겐 목격되지 않는 살갗 안의 일들을 어떻게 공유할 수 있을까라는 의문은 여전히 존재한다. 한 사람의 언어 체계를 이해하기 위해선 그 사람을 오래도록 지켜봐야 하는 일처럼, 내게 그림은 세계에 ‘나’라는 주체를 이해시키기 위한 오랜 프로젝트이다. 현재는 신체의 기능적 측면에 집중하여 신체가 가지는 주체성에 대해 표현하고자 한다. 하나의 이야기를 생성하고 그 안에 존재하는 이미지를 포착하는 작업 과정으로 하여금 드러난 대상들은 각각의 상징을 함유한다. 타자의 몸으로 대변되는 동물들은 화면 안에서 서사를 가진 채 작동하며, 감상자와 만나는 순간 다시 새로운 이야기를 만들어낸다. 몇 번의 과정을 거쳐 도출된 이미지가 완전한 타자에게 어떠한 방식으로 흡수되는지에 대해 탐구하고자 한다. I explore how the mind influences the body and how the subjective body interacts with the outside world, capturing these ideas in painting. The body is wholly mine, yet it cannot be fully conquered. Within the uncertainty of not being able to trust even my own , within the skin—those not witnessed by others—remains unresolved. For me, painting is a long-term project to communicate the subject of 'self' to the world, much like how understanding a person's language system requires observing them for an extended period. Currently, I aim to express the subjectivity of the body by focusing on its functional aspects. The objects revealed through the process of constructing a narrative and capturing the images within it carry their own symbolic meanings. Animals, representing the bodies of others, operate within the canvas with their narratives, and the moment they encounter the viewer, they generate new stories. I seek to explore how the images, developed through multiple processes, are absorbed and reinterpreted by the complete 'other.' (2024)
